What We Do

The Otago University Surveying Students Association (OUSSA) is a student-run organisation that supports and advocates for students studying surveying.

Our main goals are to provide academic and social support, advocate for the interests of surveying students, and foster a sense of community among surveying students. The OUSSA achieves these goals by organising sporting events, social gatherings, and academic tutorials to provide resources and networking opportunities for students.

We also engage in outreach initiatives to promote the surveying profession to a wider audience, including advocating to potential employers on behalf of the student body. Additionally, OUSSA provides a platform for surveying students to voice their concerns and address any issues they may have with faculty or administrators. Through its various activities and initiatives, OUSSA plays a vital role in preparing surveying students for successful careers in the industry and creating a supportive community for them to thrive in.

Social

The OUSSA arranges various social events all year round to bring everyone together different outside of the classroom. These events consist of barbecues, sports activities, and other social get-togethers.

Sporting

The OUSSA organises the annual Marlowe Cup, a popular competition that brings together surveying students from Otago and engineering students from Canterbury. In addition to rugby, the cup also includes a netball tournament and a cheeky boat race.

Academia

The OUSSA offers a range of tutorials for both exam and test preparation. We collaborate with the university's faculty and administration to address any concerns or issues that students may have with their courses. By providing academic support, OUSSA aims to ensure that surveying students have the resources and tools they need to excel in their studies and enjoy their time at Otago.

Support

The OUSSA has been involved in the running and presenting of the SURV298 Mental Health Workshop. This was a joint effort where the OUSSA worked closely with, Otago University Student Health, OUSA Student Support, and the Social impact studio to deliver an interactive workshop to prepare the second year surveying students for the years to come.
